The Pitt Science Outreach team regularly brings science programming to events in the community. These have included:
The Mobile Science Lab is proud to call itself one of the largest Pitt Panther fans (literally). It attended every Pitt men's football game of the 2011-12 season, involving fans of all ages in science outreach starting three hours before kick-off. Program: Exercise and Health
Summer Camps (ex: YMCA Camp Kon-o-Kwee, Pitt’s Physical Activities Camp for Kids)
Amid canoeing, scavenger hunting and marshmallow browning, Pittsburgh-area campers enjoy the unique opportunity to build science into their summer fun. Pitt Science Outreach travels to numerous summer camps in the region and interacts with thousands of campers.
Disease Events/Walks (ex: Autism Walk, Burger King Cancer Walk, Juvenile Diabetes Walk)
The city of Pittsburgh abounds with great people passionate about ending diseases of all kinds. When such people put on disease awareness events, Pitt Science Outreach can often be found at a booth or on the Mobile Science Lab, educating attendees about the importance of science in our search for cures.
Futbol para Niños
Pitt Science Outreach kicks and scores, for science! Our program has reached this event, organized by Pittsburgh’s Hispanic community, in which local youngsters ran around playing soccer and learning (thanks to us) how their exercise helped their body. Program: Exercise and Health
National Society for Black Engineers Science Fair
Pitt Science Outreach has been a science fair exhibit! Middle and high school students from all over the country attended the NSBE science fair, bringing their science projects and getting a taste of the exciting programs Pitt Science Outreach has to offer. Programs: Human Genetics, Moving Molecules
Geek Art and Green Innovators (GA/GI) Festival
A celebration of local art and green living, the GA/GI festival has been a regular stop for Pitt Science Outreach. Impressed by our GA/GI presentation, the “2011 World Water Day” invited us to participate in that event. Program: Exercise and Health, Effects of Water Pollution on Human Health.
